Thank you. I was fortunate in that I eliminated the clumsy metaphors in a first attempt at the prompt.
If you don’t mind my asking, do you think the second to last line would work better reversed (“to beat and bleed”)? I’ve been hung up on that phrase for a while.
Thank you! I’m grateful to hear that you found depth in this beyond the shaved meat to which I likened my heart/writing. (It sounds like such a strange concept when I think of it that way…)
Thank you for enjoying the alliteration; it seems to be my pen’s preset preference. As for the visceral ending, this piece felt a bit too tame without getting back to the vivid images of the heart.
Oh my! This is fabulous… Love the write.

To bleed and beat is better, I think.

Thank you for offering your opinion on the matter. I’ve enjoyed much of what I’ve read of yours and trust your judgment on that line.

Thank you. It’s got to have some sense of rhythm/beat if I’m going to explicitly claim as much, right?

Thank you. The direction may have been a bit cliche, but I hoped to put a bit of a spin on it. …The pun, miraculously, was not intended.

I can just picture meat on a spit with that opening stanza.

I’m glad to hear the image formed well for you; I wasn’t sure if that reference would connect. (I had to research what it was even called.)

What fun is there in writing if we can’t leave a bit of ourselves on the page, right?
