Brackish Waters

High tide inundates
unshielded estuaries —
salinated rheums
overrunning worn fingers,
wispy, sugary sandbars.

  1. Oh, jeez–I feel ill-witted in this challenge. Your words speak volumes, and I love the scene you paint here. Every time I see “rheum,” though, I always think of a snotty, running nose. lol Thank you, Shakespeare!

    Excellent word-work, here!! Wow!

    • That’s some mighty praise, and I thank you for it, but you’re certainly selling yourself short; we simply took the prompt in different directions. I’m currently caught in a revived interest in haiku and tanka, whereas you actually developed a full-fledged and relatable story.
